What was that about not fitting in with our blogs?
Marius being dorky (which is not unusual).
I think I have been re-watching Seasons 1 and 2 of VIKINGS a bit too much because two things are driving me mad….
1. Ragnar tells Rollo that he has met a shipbuilding “wanderer”, ie. Floki.
Bjorn has never met him. He has never seen Bjorn who is twelve at the time.
That’s right. In addition, in episode 7 (season 1), Aelle’s brother’s name is Aethelwulf. And Aelle has son named Ecbert. In season 2, character named Aethewulf becomes Aelle’s son-in-law. And his father’s name is Ecbert.
Mr Hirst needs to diagram his own story instead of the history he picks and chooses to use….
Exactly… Oh, I forgot to mention that in season 1 Aelle had 1 son. In season 2 Ecbert became Judith. Seems like he couldn’t decide… :/
Little Ecbert was there at Wessex. You see him when they first arrive.
I’m sure story-wise Judith was kept away from the Northmen when they dined in Aelle’s hall. Protective fathering and all….
Maybe we’re just meant to conclude that Anglosaxon royalty are really uninventive when it comes to names?
I still maintain that Horik was scheeming against Ragnar from day one in part because he holds Ragnar responsible for his cousin’s death and a man has his duty of vengeance to consider.
Lol the name thing is so true. Probably stems from that ‘Divine Right’ thing and keeping the same names is part of keeping the throne…blah blah blah….
And I totally agree on Horik’s motivations. I think he wanted that territory to begin with and was hoping Haraldson would be out of the way for his cousin to take over. Then Ragnar and Siggy stepped up and he lost his hold. I mean, it’s pretty clear Horik was working some sort of angle back in season 1, we just didn’t know what at the time…
Oh, Horik is an empire builder - I strongly suspect he had something to do with both Haraldson’s dead sons and that nasty bit with Borg and Borg’s brother and Borg’s first wife. Divide and conquer. In fact, when Haraldson died, Bjarni was his legitimate heir (and probably would have stayed that way, since Haraldson didn’t seem likely to get more sons) - and when Bjarni died, well, I wonder who was Bjarni’s closest relative? Hmmm. Pity about that upstart peasant couple, but maybe if we play them and Borg against one another…
Oh good God we are so on the same page it’s scary.
I just finished season 1 for 24601st time. You’re right that Horik was planning something. I didn’t really like him from the beginning, but now I truly hate him.
Some of my personal favourite “pretty Athelstan” gifs that I’ve made.
Always happy to reblog the pretty.
